hazel batrezchavez’s (b.1994) practice is rooted in the politics of survival and the poetics of movement, moving freely between textiles, performance, and assemblage sculpture. batrezchavez’s work has been exhibited at SITE Santa Fe (NM), El Paso Museum of Art (TX) Radford University Museum of Art (VA), Latinx Art Project at NYU (NY) among others. Their work has been collected both privately and by the City of Albuquerque, and Grinnell Collage Museum of Art among other insititutions. batrezchavez received their BFA in Anthropology and Studio Art from Grinnell College and their MFA in Sculpture from the University of New Mexico.
Currently they reside in Albuquerque, New Mexico where they continue to work as an artist and Curator at the Art Museum of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. They are a founding member of the fronteristxs Collective, Granadina Co-op and co-run DiY art space, Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá.
